Underfloor Insulation
If your property is situated on a ground floor and has a form of suspended wooden flooring, we can keep the draughts at bay by installing underfloor insulation throughout.
Underfloor insulation is another good way of preventing heat loss through the floor. This method is especially appropriate for older houses. Many older properties have ‘suspended floors’, or unheated cellars where there is a gap underneath the floorboards. This gap can be filled by temporarily removing the floorboards and laying rolls of mineral wool insulation. Alternatively, you might have a basement below and your rigid insulation boards can be applied to the ceiling.
Here at SG Insulation, we specialise in this type of insulation. We have insulated thousands of these properties over the years using fully approved specialist insulation systems.
This measure helps your property hold heat more efficiently. It stops any unwanted cold air pass through the floorboards whilst still maintaining the air circulation beneath the floor that helps with keeping the property dry and stopping damp.
The floorboards are taken up and then the insulation is laid – which can be loose fit or in a roll, between the joists. If you have a basement underneath your floor, then rigid boards can be applied to the ceiling which will give added insulation to the room above.
Solid floors can be insulated with rigid boards. Thereafter, your desired or existing flooring can be installed on top of them. This, however, will raise your previous floor level and so it is necessary to consider that doors, skirtings and electrical sockets may have to be adjusted.
